Patriots or Giants?  No….not what we are talking about…This coming Sunday (tomorrow!!), the Super Bowl is not the only sporting event to spectate–at least not in South Florida.  While everyone is waiting for “the big game” to kickoff at 6:30PM EST, they can get some early action and take in some great local bicycle races.

This weekend is also the kickoff for the 2012 Bill Bone Pro Am road racing series.  Saturday begins with a return to an “old” 4.2 mile course with wide turns and a fast straight-away. Sunday, the race is on wide open roads of Homestead for 10.5 mile laps.

This weekends race purse consists of $7,500 to be paid out within several categories–and we know our Rose Bandit Racers will be taking some of that purse home.

In the Women’s 1/3 Category, Rose Bandit Laura Parsons looks to make a strong showing in her first race back since breaking her collar bone in a training ride here in Miami.  Rose Bandit National Race Team member, Elizabeth Morse Hill, will most likely also have a showing at the BBPA.  The women will be racing for a total of 54 miles.

Another great race to spectate will also be taking place at Amelia Earhart Park where a couple Rose Bandits will also be racing, although on their mountain bikes (mountain biking in Florida?).  Rose Bandit racer Duffy Danish, and Rose Bandit supporters Michael Danish and Freddy Viera will be competing in the Coconut Cup Race Series presented by Gone Riding.  This is the 5th race of the 6 race series and currently Michael is leading his Sport category.  Duffy is looking to ride strong and have a good showing as she recovers from being sick for a couple of weeks.

So if your looking for some heart pumping event to watch before the Super Bowl with the family, you can go out to the Homestead Sports Complex and watch the road racers battle it out on the road, or you can take the family to Amelia Earhart Park, and watch mountain bikers race and see who wins after all the dust settles.
